Dr. Alexandre Koumtchev

M.D

With over two decades of experience in psychiatry and hospital leadership, I am deeply committed to advancing accessible, high-quality mental health care. My passion lies in developing innovative approaches that enhance patient-centered care and ensure mental wellness is within reach for all. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to both clinical excellence and the broader mission of improving mental health services on a systemic level. Beyond my professional life, I find joy in spending time with my two daughters and two grandchildren. I call Nashville home, where I embrace an active and adventurous lifestyle. In my free time, I indulge my love for travel, mountain biking, and skiing—pursuits that keep me energized and inspired.

I have dedicated my career to advancing mental health care and ensuring accessible, high-quality services for all. Currently, I serve as the Chief Medical Officer at River Region Psychiatry Associates and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Belmont University, where I contribute to both patient care and the education of future mental health professionals. For more than a decade, I have been deeply involved in psychiatric leadership at TriStar Centennial Medical Center, where I serve as Medical Director and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry. In this role, I oversee mental health services, shape psychiatric care strategies, and continue to provide direct patient care as an Attending Psychiatrist. Previously, I had the privilege of serving at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System as Chief of Psychiatry and Interim Chief of Mental Health, leading psychiatric care for veterans.

Additionally, I spent ten years as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where I also served as Associate Program Director of the Psychiatric Residency and was honored to be Chief Resident of Psychiatry during my training. My passion lies in improving mental health accessibility, enhancing patient-centered care, and mentoring the next generation of psychiatrists. Through my leadership, clinical practice, and academic work, I remain committed to shaping the future of mental health care. I have completed residency in internal medicine with fellowship in pulmonology in Bulgaria.
